Alumni Hall, Farkas Auditorium, New York University Medical Center First
Avenue & 31 st St., New York City
19th Annual Conference New York Neuropsychology Group Joint Meeting with
The New York Academy of Sciences, Psychology Section
Sponsored by the NYU Post-Graduate Medical School in conjunction with the
New York Neuropsychology Group
Many clinical conditions are clarified by neuropsychological analyses of
brain-behavior relationships in termss of anatomical localization, but
sometimes patients lacking obvious lesions have forced us to look at neurotransmitter
abnormalities, within or beyond specified loci. Now it is time for neuropsychologists
to consider the implications of the fact that the nervous system talks
to the immune system and vice versa, at every moment. The known influences
of behavior, social stimuli, and conditioning history on the immune system,
and the known influences of immune activity on behavior, mood, and cognition
raise provocative questions about normal as well as abnormal functioning;
and about controversial symptom complaints in condi tions with sparse or
poorly understood evidence of "organic" etiologies.
